GIGABYTE Announced Padbook S1185 Tablet with Windows 8

GIGABYTE announced its newest creation which is similar and dissimilar to ASUS' Transformer Pad. It's similar in that it's a tablet that docks into a base, transforming itself into a conventional notebook; it's dissimilar in featuring PC innards, and running a choice of Windows 8 or Windows 8 Pro.

The 11.6-incher features a 16:9 display aspect-ratio, and full-HD (1920 x 1080 pixels) resolution. It features two sets of home keys and front-facing cameras; so they're perfectly located in both portrait and landscape modes. Apart from the base-station connector, the tablet features a USB 3.0 SuperSpeed port, a much slower USB 2.0 HiSpeed port, D-Sub and HDMI display outputs, an SD card reader, and a combination of 1.3-megapixel front and 5-megapixel rear cameras. Wireless connectivity includes 3.5G (optional), 802.11 b/g/n WLAN, and Bluetooth 4.0.

Things get interesting under the hood. The Padbook S1185 is driven by an Ultrabook-grade Intel Core i5-3337U dual-core processor clocked in the range of 1.80-2.70 GHz; up to 8 GB of single-channel DDR3 RAM, Intel HD graphics; 64, 128, and 256GB mSATA SSD-based storage options; and a 39 Wh Li-polymer battery. The base station does little more than add a physical keyboard and trackpad. It looks completely devoid of ports or additional battery packs.

GIGABYTE did not reveal pricing.
